After Workday acquired the startup I left consulting for, I took the opportunity to reset my career focus on climate tech. I had seen climate change as the major challenge for our species for a few years, but felt somewhat sidelined – I hadn’t studied battery chemistry, or built a career in automotive engineering. While at ThoughtWorks, however, I had the opportunity to serve as a consultant for a major power grid in the US, and realized that energy companies needed software too.
I joined some fantastic slack groups – My Climate Journey, Work on Climate and others and started making connections. This resulted in me joining Odyssey Energy Solutions as VP Engineering in 2022. I’ve also discovered some local climate tech groups, come find me at ClimateNorth if you’re in the Toronto area.
I contribute to an open source project for improving heating efficiency in homes. I was hooked on using infrared heating panels, but sadly they didn’t come with any kind of thermostat – and so the thermo project for Raspberry Pi was born.
I also started a YouTube channel journalling the process of getting in to electric vehicles, charging, and even flying an electric airplane in Germany.

Optimizing Energy Monitoring Tools for Distributed Energy Systems
If you are operating a portfolio of distributed energy systems, chances are that you’re interacting with a number of different inverter manufacturers, and relying on the data from the cloud-based monitoring systems that they provide. One critical question to ask if you are relying on these different data sources is, “Do all of the monitoring…

Living in the US, Canada, or even much of Europe you’d be excused for thinking the story about electric vehicles (EVs) is largely about passenger cars. Our media seems to promote this belief, publishing mostly stories about automakers and passenger cars. This enthusiasm is well placed, of course, as in 2022 Bloomberg NEF estimated the…
